How to Reduce Lines and Wrinkles on the Neck

Does your neck make you look older than your years? The skin on your neck is thinner than the rest of your skin, making it more susceptible to UV damage. Also, as we age our fat tends to redistribute -- there is less fat around our neck and more around our middle. Nice, Huh? Our bodies also don't make as much collagen as they did in our youth. So with less collagen and fat to support our neck structure, not to mention the forces of gravity, we often get wrinkles, saggy skin, that not-so-lovely looking turkey wattle, or deep bands around the neck.

What can you do about Turkey Wattle and Wrinkles Around the Neck?

Start treating your neck like it's part of your face. Cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize your neck and when you are sliding on a serum such as Vitamin C or glycolic acid, don't forget to put it on your neck. Use an upward motion whenever you apply a product to your neck and face, and use a gentle touch. It's critical that you use sunscreen on your neck, just as you do on your face, rain or shine.

Special Products to Erase Neck Wrinkles

There are a number of products that can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the neck and tighten the skin.

Avoiding Neck Wrinkles

Some people advocate sleeping on a low pillow as opposed to a high one, so your head isn't forced now, thus creating wrinkles in the neck. You can even try sleeping on a silk or satin pillowcase, which will allow your face to slide smoothly instead of scrunching up. Try to sleep on your back instead of your side or stomach.

Medical Procedures for Neck Wrinkles

There are several medical procedures that can help with neck wrinkles, such as lasers and peels, Botox injections, a neck lift or even neck liposuction to remove excess fat.

Frankly, none of the medical procedures sound like appealing options for this sensitive area. My preference is to use sunscreen daily, apply a serum like AlphaDerma CE, and trade in my standard cotton pillowcase for a soft, silky one.
