Simplify Your Anti-Aging Skincare Routine: Getting the Biggest Bang for your BucksWe all like simple. Who has time for a complicated skin-care plan with lots of different creams, serums, moisturizers, toners and the like. You can easily spend a fortune and a lot of time, and not get the results you're after. Here is a simplified daily plan that hits all the key areas without taking too much time or breaking your budget. Cleanse using a
mild cleanser morning and evening to remove makeup and debris and help
prevent your pores from clogging. You don't need to spend a ton of money
on a cleanser, and don't be taken in by claims of all sorts of fancy ingredients
and things like AHA's. You want to get your skin clean without leaving
a residue or drying it out, and remember you are washing it off, so those
"extras" go right down the drain. My favorites include Skinceuticals
Simply Clean and Dermalogica Essential Cleansing Solution.
Both are available at The
SkinStore.com Apply a moisturizer with broad
spectrum UVA/UBA sunscreen -- at least SPF 15, preferably SPF
30 -- daily. It does little good to try to repair skin damage and minimize
wrinkles if you don't wear sunscreen to help prevent new damage and wrinkles.
I like Kinerase Cream SPF 30 and SkinCeuticals Daily Sun Defense
SPF 20, as well as
La Roche Posay Anthelios SX Daily Moisturizer with SPF 15 Splurge on a good Antioxidant
Serum to use morning or night. Antioxidants are critical to
help fight free radicals such as UV ray exposure, pollution, etc. Here
is where you want to spend your money.
Ingredients to look for include Vitamin
C and E, ferulic acid, Retinol,
Resveratol, and green tea extract. Packaging is important.
Look for ones in amber jars with small openings or aluminum tubes to help
keep light and air out to preserve freshness and potency. My favorites
are SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic, Skin Medica TNS Recovery Complex,
Topix Replenix Retinol Smoothing Serum 10X, and Kinerase C6 Peptide Intensive
Treatment. You can find all these products at The
SkinStore.com Use an exfoliator with alpha
hydroxy acids (AHA's) or retinol to encourage your skin to
slough off dead cells. This will reveal smoother, softer skin and help
minimize the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It's best to use at
night to prevent interaction from the sun, which may cause sensitivity
or increased tendency to burn. There are lots of great products like NeoStrata
Face Cream Plus, as well as a private label line available at GreatSkin.com Try a microdermabrasion product to boost the
shedding of old, dull, dead skin cells. You will be surprised how this
can freshen the look of your skin. Depending on your sensitivity, you
can use it up to three times a week. Products include Peter Thomas
Roth Multi-Action All-In-One Micro-Dermabrasion and Dr.
Brandt microderma-brasion available at The
SkinStore.com That's not too complicated, is it?
Well that's it for this issue. Valerie Goettsch |
