acid derived from sugar cane. Glycolic acid is a natural
skin exfoliator. It works by gently sloughing off the dry,

What kind of glycolic acid product should
you use
There are different glycolic acid formulations,
ranging from creams to serums and gels. In general, if you
have dry skin you may prefer a cream. If you have oiler skin
you may prefer a gel or serum.
To be effective, a minimum of 10% concentration
of glycolic acid is recommended and the product base should
have a low pH, between 3-4.
Test for sensitivy
Since some people can be sensitive and glycolic
acid could cause their skin to sting, be sure to try a patch
test on the inside of your elbow for a few days. If no redness
or irritation develops, you should be okay to use the glycolic
acid product on your face.
Sunscreen is a must
Using a glycolic acid product can make your
skin more sensitive to the sun, so it is vital that you use
a sunscreen with UVA/UVB
protection and an SPF of at least 15, preferably higher,
before going out in the sun.
Tip: Since it takes about 15 minutes for glycolic
acid to penetrate the skin, and you may not want to wait around
in the morning if you are preparing for work, apply your glycolic
acid treatment at night before your go to bed. Don't use a
moisturizer immediately afterward, because it can reduce the
effectiveness. Avoid getting glycolic acid products around
or in the eyes.
